I don't know why, but I've had a difficult time yawning lately. I'll feel an overwhelming need to yawn and I'll slowly inhale, but I either can't relax enough or stretch my lungs enough to fully yawn. And it's driving me crazy. It eventually happens - after a few attempts, anyway - but it's very annoying to have to yawn and not be able to.
I just finished reading a book on assertiveness. Not the militant "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it" assertiveness, just a more reasonable approach - sticking up for your rights, speaking up when it's warranted, deciding when to be assertive (vs. aggressive or passive). It's helped me think about my relationships with people, and how I deal with others. I still have a ways to go, but I've taken a few steps down the right path.
I really want to see this production: Funk It Up About Nothin' at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. According to the website, it's an "an 'ad-rap-tation' of Much Ado About Nothing." I'm not sure if it will be funny, unintentionally funny, or both. The only question now is figuring out when to see it.

I may not have won the WAKA Founders Cup video competition (boo), but I did get mentioned in the national newsletter, which is cool. (I did not, however, get a runner-up prize, at least not yet, which sucks.)

(Click here if you never got a chance to see the video -- even with the glitchies, I still think it turned out pretty well.)

Last weerk, late bus home, i listened to Pressing On, as covered by John Doe for the soudntrack of I'm Not There. I was weary, so was the sun as it disappeared, so were the workers on the bus... it was an experience, close as this secular ass gets to mystical...
In I'm Not There, Haynes presents this Dylan as a suburban late 70s gospel preacher, something that puzzled me... the idea of Dylan the anti-prophet's prophet prophesying confused me. I knew of his christian period but this was gospel and something else besides, something foreign to the folk-rock-blues progression I associated with him...
Then I saw this and I understood. As a Dylan fan, it's stunning to watch. As a cinema fan, it's beautiful proof of Haynes's vision. This is Dylan as word of God through him speaks Dylan, part gnostic, part st augustine. In the end he walks away, a moment of transcendence where Dylan finally seems to get his wish - for the music to be more than him, for the power of the song to rise so much it can continue its gospel truths without him, without the weight of his own self on his shoulders. through the word he becomes free. from the song he offers freedom.
compare. contrast. watch. be moved. move nothing. believe. don't lie. press on.

Oh, right. This thing.
Now, where did I leave off?
Care packages from my mother make me happy. Today's featured the following:
- A baseball cap I left at their place the last time I visited
- 2 boxes of Kashi cereal
- 3 Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupons (WHY DON'T I GET THEM IN NY.)
- A birthday card from my uncle
- A mini colander
Random. And awesome.

July 3rd, 2008: Minus ended today, which makes me sad because it is a kick-ass comic that I really loved, but Ryan always warned us it would stop suddenly. I recommend reading from the start! I also recommend this particular installment. Ryan I look forward to your next project!
Hey all, Check out Keri Hilson. If ur a Britney or Pussycat Dolls fan, you might like hers. Here is a little promo video -you might recognize her from a lot of stuff.
She is ALSO on my Nigger Nas's new single which is one of my gymtime bangas. Give it a listen even if ur not a fan of intellectual rap.

The video for her new single "Energy" is being shot and if kinda looks familiar....

She's all over the place (and it doesn't hurt rolling with Timbo). She's on a new Chris Brown song "Superhuman." The list goes on, but I definitely hope she does well. Enjoy.

IN THE NEWS: FACEBOOK-SCRABBLE
NEW YORK (AP) - If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. At least when
it comes to online Scrabble. Facebook users who play the classic
word game on the site will soon have an approved version. An
unauthorized version called Scrabulous has nearly a-half million
daily users, despite efforts by Scrabble's owners to squash it.
This month, Electronic Arts Incorporated says it'll release a
Scrabble application which Facebook members can add to their
profiles. EA is producing Scrabble under a year-old licensing deal
with Hasbro, which owns the rights to Scrabble.

I have a few public service announcements to make. (AP and Anastasia, listen up.)
1) Amy is fun to hang out with, I do not mind that she "treats me bad" because it's all friendly and I get my diggs in by calling her Crazy Cousin Amy and telling her she's old.
2) Amy is not an alcoholic.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, y'all saw that picture of the giant mojito right? Awesome. CCA arrived in town Thursday night and we headed directly from the train station to dinner and then to River Street Sweets in the mall (zomg the chocolate bear claws), because she demanded that I have chocolate on hand when she came to visit. Afterwards, we headed back to my place, where I had Grey Goose, tonic water and limes on hand because she demanded there be alcohol when she came to visit. (To be fair, she just requested good beer, the GG was my idea. What better way to celebrate the birth of our country than with a fine imported French vodka?)
